callback jokes
References revisiting earlier
Callback jokes are a comedy technique where a comedian references an earlier joke or setup later in the performance, creating surprise by connecting seemingly unrelated material.
The technique rewards attentive audiences and builds a sense of cohesion across a set: The callback to the airline bit killed.
Callbacks work because the audience feels clever for remembering the original reference.
