non-sequiturs

logic leaps sideways

Non-sequiturs is the plural of non-sequitur, a statement or conclusion that doesn't logically follow from what came before.

In conversation, a non-sequitur is a remark that seems to come out of nowhere: We were discussing the budget when he suddenly asked if anyone liked penguins.

In logic, it names a formal fallacy where the conclusion isn't supported by the premises.
