cable modems
Broadband connection devices
A cable modem is a device that connects a computer or home network to the internet through the same coaxial cable that delivers cable television.
Unlike dial-up modems that used phone lines, cable modems provide high-speed broadband access by using dedicated data channels on the cable system.
The term became common in the late 1990s as cable internet service expanded, and though the technology has evolved, the basic function remains: converting cable signals to internet data for home use.
