button hooks
Victorian dressing tools
Button hooks are small tools with a handle and a thin metal hook, designed to pull buttons through tight buttonholes.
They were common in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when high-button shoes and closely fitted garments made fastening difficult by hand alone.
Though largely obsolete, they remain useful for people with limited dexterity.
In American football, a button hook is a pass route where the receiver runs downfield, then turns sharply back toward the quarterback.
