business mergers
Companies joining together
A business merger is the combination of two or more companies into a single entity.
Unlike an acquisition, where one company absorbs another, a merger typically implies a more equal joining of forces: The merger created the world's largest automaker.
Mergers may be horizontal (competitors combining), vertical (suppliers joining customers), or conglomerate (unrelated businesses).
The plural often appears in the phrase mergers and acquisitions, abbreviated M&A.
