bump-outs

Small room extensions

Bump-outs are small architectural extensions that project outward from a building's main wall, typically adding a few feet of interior space without requiring a full addition.

In home renovation, a bump-out might expand a kitchen or bathroom just enough to accommodate a larger window, breakfast nook, or additional counter space.

The term also applies to traffic calming features—curb extensions that jut into the street at intersections or crosswalks, narrowing the roadway to slow vehicles and shorten pedestrian crossing distances.
