bow waves
Prow-generated water displacement
Bow waves are the V-shaped waves that spread outward from the front of a boat or ship as it moves through water.
The term extends to similar wave patterns in other contexts—the shock wave preceding a supersonic aircraft, or the curved disturbance a fast-moving object creates in any medium: The bow wave from the speedboat rocked smaller craft at the marina.
