bounced check fee
Insufficient funds charge
A bounced check fee is a charge imposed by a bank when a check cannot be processed due to insufficient funds in the account.
The fee typically applies both to the person who wrote the check and, separately, to the recipient whose bank attempted to deposit it.
Also called a returned check fee or NSF fee (non-sufficient funds).
