Bombes is the plural of bombe, a dome-shaped frozen dessert typically made with ice cream or mousse layered in a spherical mold: The chef prepared chocolate bombes for the dinner party.
The shape resembles a cannonball, which gave the dessert its name.
Bombes may also refer to the electromechanical devices used to break Enigma cipher codes during World War II.
