blue film
Explicit erotic cinema
A blue film is a pornographic movie.
The term dates from the mid-twentieth century, when such films were shown in private clubs or sold under the counter.
Blue has long been associated with obscenity and indecency in English—hence blue jokes, blue humor, working blue.
The phrase sounds dated now, largely replaced by "porn" or "adult film."
