bloomer

Late or early developer

A bloomer is a blunder or embarrassing mistake, chiefly British: I made a real bloomer forgetting her name.

Separately, bloomers are loose-fitting women's undergarments or athletic pants gathered at the knee, named after 19th-century women's rights advocate Amelia Bloomer.

A late bloomer develops or matures later than typical: She was a late bloomer academically but excelled in college.
