bleak outlook
Dark future ahead
A bleak outlook is a pessimistic view of what lies ahead—an expectation that circumstances will remain difficult or worsen: The economic forecast painted a bleak outlook for small businesses.
The phrase combines bleak's sense of cold desolation with outlook's forward-looking perspective, suggesting a future stripped of hope or promise.
