black notes
Ebony keyboard keys
The black notes are the five raised keys on a piano keyboard, forming the pentatonic scale.
They sit in groups of two and three between the white keys.
Musicians sometimes call them sharps and flats, though which name applies depends on the key signature.
The black notes alone produce a scale common in folk music worldwide: She improvised using only the black notes.
