bit players
Minor role performers
Bit players are actors who perform small, often unnamed roles in film or theater—the waiter who delivers one line, the pedestrian who walks past the lead.
The term extends to anyone with a minor part in larger events: In the scandal, several bit players were called to testify, though they knew little of consequence.
The singular bit player is more common.
