bird colonies
Communal avian settlements
Bird colonies are gatherings of birds that nest or roost together in concentrated numbers, sometimes in the thousands.
Seabirds, herons, and penguins commonly form colonies on cliffs, islands, or wetlands.
The term also applies to the nesting sites themselves: The island hosts one of the largest bird colonies in the Atlantic.
