big band music
Brass section swing
Big band music is jazz or swing performed by large ensembles—typically fifteen to twenty-five musicians—featuring brass, woodwind, and rhythm sections playing coordinated arrangements.
The style dominated American popular music from the 1930s through the mid-1940s, the so-called swing era: My grandparents danced to big band music during the war.
Big bands emphasize written charts and section work over solo improvisation, though soloists still take featured breaks.
