jazz quartet
Four improvisers together
A jazz quartet is a four-piece jazz ensemble, typically consisting of piano, bass, drums, and one lead instrument such as saxophone or trumpet.
The format became a standard configuration in modern jazz, balancing harmonic support with solo improvisation: The jazz quartet played standards at the club until midnight.
