big-tent
Ideologically diverse coalition
Big-tent describes a political party, movement, or organization that welcomes a broad range of views rather than demanding ideological purity.
The metaphor evokes a circus tent large enough to shelter diverse factions: The party adopted a big-tent strategy to attract moderates.
A big-tent approach prioritizes coalition-building over doctrinal consistency.
