best supporting actress
Award category honoree
Best supporting actress is an award category in film recognizing outstanding performance by an actress in a secondary role.
The category distinguishes supporting players from leads—those who enhance rather than carry a film: She won Best Supporting Actress for her ten minutes of screen time.
The designation appears in major ceremonies like the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and their equivalents worldwide.
