beer traps
Pest drowning dishes
Beer traps are containers of beer set out to attract and drown garden pests, especially slugs and snails.
The yeast smell draws them in, and they fall into the liquid and can't escape.
Gardeners bury shallow dishes or cups so the rim sits at soil level: I set out beer traps around the hostas.
