hand-picking

Selecting one by one

Hand-picking is selecting individually and deliberately, choosing specific items or people from a larger group based on particular criteria.

The term comes from literally picking fruit or vegetables by hand rather than by machine: hand-picked strawberries.

More often figurative: The director hand-picked her cast.

Hand-picked selections imply careful, personal attention to quality.
