bedrails

Bed edge protectors

Bedrails are the side panels on a bed frame that connect the headboard to the footboard, or the safety barriers attached to prevent someone from falling out of bed.

The latter are common in hospitals and nursing homes, and for young children transitioning from cribs: The nurse raised the bedrails before leaving the room.
