bear upon

Bear upon means to relate to or have relevance to something: How does this evidence bear upon the case?

The phrase suggests applying pressure or influence toward a point, as weight bears upon a surface.

It's more formal than "bear on," which carries the same meaning: These findings bear upon our earlier conclusions.
