ball in hand
Free cue placement
Ball in hand is a rule in cue sports giving a player the freedom to place the cue ball anywhere on the table before shooting.
It typically follows a foul by the opponent: After he scratched, I had ball in hand and set up an easy shot.
Some games restrict placement to behind the head string; others allow placement anywhere.
