auxiliary power
Reserve power source
Auxiliary power is a secondary or backup source of electrical energy, distinct from the main power supply.
In vehicles and aircraft, auxiliary power units (APUs) provide electricity when the primary engine isn't running: The plane's auxiliary power kept the cabin lit at the gate.
Buildings may have auxiliary power systems—generators or batteries—that activate during outages.
