autosaving

Background file protection

Autosaving is the automatic preservation of work at regular intervals, without requiring the user to manually save.

Most modern software autosaves to prevent data loss from crashes or power failures: I didn't lose anything—the app was autosaving the whole time.

The term also works as an adjective: an autosaving feature.
