author photo
Jacket flap image
An author photo is the portrait of a writer that appears on a book jacket, website, or promotional material.
These images typically show the author looking thoughtful or approachable, often in black and white.
The term sometimes carries mild irony, since author photos are notoriously flattering or outdated: That author photo must be twenty years old.
