ash fallout
Airborne eruption remnants
Ash fallout is the descent of volcanic ash particles from the atmosphere following an eruption.
The fine debris can travel hundreds of miles before settling, coating surfaces and posing hazards to health, machinery, and agriculture: Residents were warned to stay indoors during the ash fallout.
The term sometimes extends to radioactive particles settling after a nuclear event.
