archery season
Designated bow-hunting time
Archery season is the period when hunting a particular game animal with bow and arrow is legally permitted, typically preceding the general firearms season.
Wildlife agencies set separate archery seasons to give bowhunters opportunities when animals are less wary: Archery season for deer opens September 15th.
The longer range and noise of firearms would scatter game that archers can approach more closely.
