arc-lamp
Plasma-gap light source
An arc-lamp produces light by passing an electric current across a gap between two electrodes, creating a brilliant arc of plasma.
Before incandescent bulbs, arc-lamps lit streets and large spaces.
The intense, slightly harsh light still appears in film projectors, searchlights, and industrial applications.
Also spelled arc lamp.
