approach shots
Shots toward pin
Approach shots are strokes in golf or tennis designed to position the ball advantageously for the next play.
In golf, an approach shot aims for the green from the fairway: She hit a beautiful approach shot to within three feet of the pin.
In tennis, an approach shot sets up a move to the net, transitioning from baseline play to a volleying position.
