anthrax scare
Spore threat alarm
An anthrax scare is an incident involving suspected or confirmed exposure to anthrax, the deadly bacterial disease.
The term gained currency after the 2001 letter attacks in the United States, when anthrax spores were mailed to media offices and government buildings.
Now any suspicious white powder can trigger an anthrax scare: The office was evacuated during an anthrax scare that turned out to be spilled creamer.
