angular unconformity
Tilted strata boundary
An angular unconformity is a geological boundary where younger rock layers rest on older layers that were tilted or folded before erosion and subsequent deposition.
The angle between the two sets of strata records a gap in time—the older rocks were deformed, eroded flat, then buried under new sediment.
The angular unconformity at Siccar Point helped James Hutton grasp deep time.
