anchor store
Shopping center centerpiece
An anchor store is a major retailer that draws customers to a shopping center, typically occupying the largest space at a prominent location.
Department stores and big-box chains traditionally serve as anchors, with smaller shops benefiting from the foot traffic they generate: The mall lost two anchor stores during the recession.
Also called anchor tenant.
