amortizing
Paying off slowly
Amortizing is the process of spreading a cost or debt over time through regular payments.
A mortgage is amortized when each monthly payment covers both interest and a portion of principal, gradually reducing the balance to zero.
In accounting, amortizing applies to intangible assets like patents, spreading their cost across their useful life: We're amortizing the software development costs over five years.
