amateur photographer
Casual camera enthusiast
An amateur photographer takes pictures as a hobby rather than a profession.
The term can be neutral—describing someone who photographs for personal enjoyment—or slightly dismissive, implying lesser skill than a professional: The wedding photos looked like they were taken by an amateur photographer.
Many serious enthusiasts bristle at the label, preferring "hobbyist" or "enthusiast."
