amateur night
Beginners take stage
Amateur night is an event where nonprofessionals perform, typically at comedy clubs or talent venues: Every Thursday is amateur night at the club.
Figuratively, it describes any situation marked by incompetence or lack of professionalism: The whole operation felt like amateur night—nobody knew what they were doing.
