alien gods
Extraterrestrial divine beings
Alien gods are deities from outside one's own religious tradition—foreign, unfamiliar, or hostile to the worship of a culture's established god or gods.
The phrase appears frequently in biblical contexts, where Israelites are warned against worshipping the alien gods of neighboring peoples: You shall have no other gods before me.
In contemporary usage, alien gods may refer to extraterrestrial divine beings in science fiction, or to ancient deities from traditions now perceived as exotic or forgotten: The temple was dedicated to alien gods whose names we can no longer pronounce.
