alexia

Acquired reading inability

Alexia is the loss of the ability to read, typically caused by brain injury or stroke.

Unlike dyslexia, which is a developmental reading difficulty, alexia refers to acquired reading impairment in someone who could previously read normally.

A person with alexia may still be able to write but cannot read what they've written.
