after-action report

Post-event analysis document

An after-action report is a formal review conducted after a military operation, project, or significant event to evaluate what happened, what worked, what didn't, and what should be done differently next time.

Originally military terminology, the practice has spread to business, emergency response, and other fields: The team submitted an after-action report within 48 hours of the incident.

Often abbreviated AAR.
