lessons learned
Experience distilled afterward
Lessons learned are insights gained from experience, especially from mistakes or failures.
The phrase appears constantly in corporate and military contexts, where reviewing what went wrong (and right) supposedly prevents repeating errors: We conducted a lessons-learned session after the project.
Often the lessons are documented but not actually applied.
