advisory panels

Consulting expert groups

Advisory panels are groups of experts or stakeholders assembled to provide guidance, recommendations, or specialized knowledge to an organization, government body, or decision-maker.

Unlike governing boards, advisory panels typically lack binding authority—their role is to advise rather than decide: The FDA convened an advisory panel to evaluate the vaccine's safety.

Also called advisory boards or advisory committees.
