active noise cancellation
Anti-sound listening technology
Active noise cancellation is a technology that reduces unwanted ambient sound by generating sound waves that counteract incoming noise.
Microphones detect external sounds, and the system produces an inverted signal that cancels them out.
The technology appears most commonly in headphones and earbuds: These earbuds have active noise cancellation for blocking out airplane engine noise.
Often abbreviated ANC.
