absolute pressure

Pressure including vacuum

Absolute pressure is pressure measured relative to a perfect vacuum—zero pressure.

It differs from gauge pressure, which measures relative to atmospheric pressure.

At sea level, atmospheric pressure is about 14.7 psi absolute.

Absolute pressure matters in scientific calculations and engineering contexts where true pressure values are needed: The tank operates at 50 psia (pounds per square inch absolute).
