abandoned property
Left behind belongings
Abandoned property is something the owner has voluntarily given up with no intention of reclaiming.
Unlike lost property, which the owner wants back, abandoned property can legally be claimed by whoever finds it.
The distinction matters in law: The old car left in the field for years was considered abandoned property.
Real estate, vehicles, and personal belongings can all become abandoned through prolonged neglect or explicit relinquishment.
