tax sale

Lien recovery event

A tax sale is the public sale of property seized by a government to recover unpaid taxes.

When property owners fail to pay property taxes for an extended period, the taxing authority may sell the property—or a lien against it—to satisfy the debt: The county scheduled a tax sale for properties with three or more years of delinquent taxes.
