World War II generation
Depression-era adults
The World War II generation refers to Americans who came of age during the Great Depression and fought in or supported the Second World War (roughly born 1901–1927).
Also called the Greatest Generation, a term popularized by journalist Tom Brokaw, the label emphasizes their shared sacrifice and civic duty: My grandfather was part of the World War II generation—he landed at Normandy.
