Viking culture
Medieval Nordic civilization
Viking culture refers to the way of life of the Norse seafarers from Scandinavia who raided, traded, and settled across Europe from roughly the 8th to 11th centuries.
The term evokes longships, raids on coastal monasteries, Norse mythology, and expansion to Iceland, Greenland, and briefly North America.
Modern usage often romanticizes Vikings as fierce warriors, though their society also included farmers, craftsmen, and traders: The museum exhibit explored Viking culture beyond the stereotypes of horned helmets.
