Vaseline is a brand name for petroleum jelly—a translucent, greasy substance used as a skin moisturizer, lubricant, and protective barrier.
Though trademarked, the word is often used generically for any petroleum jelly: She put Vaseline on her chapped lips.
It appears in countless home remedies and has obvious applications as a sexual lubricant.
