Urban Cowboy
Honky-tonk Houstonian type
Urban Cowboy describes someone who adopts cowboy style—boots, hats, Western shirts—without actually working on a ranch or farm.
The term gained currency from the 1980 film depicting Houston's mechanical-bull bar scene, where oil workers and city dwellers dressed Western and danced country.
It can be affectionate or mildly mocking: He's an urban cowboy who's never been on a horse.
